Multimodal Joint Head Orientation Estimation in Interacting Groups via Proxemics and Interaction Dynamics

چکیده

Human head orientation estimation has been of interest because serves as a cue to directed social attention. Most existing approaches rely on visual and high-fidelity sensor inputs deep learning strategies that do not consider the context unstructured crowded mingling scenarios. We show alternative inputs, like speaking status, body location, orientation, acceleration contribute towards estimation. These are especially useful in in-the-wild settings where features either uninformative due occlusions or prohibitive acquire physical space limitations concerns ecological validity. argue such needs account for physically evolving interaction formed by all individuals group. To this end, we propose an LSTM-based method combines hidden representations group members. Our framework jointly predicts orientations members is applicable groups different sizes. explain contribution modalities model performance The proposed outperforms baseline methods explicitly context, generalizes unseen dataset from event.

Interacting with Virtual Agents in Shared Space: Single and Joint Effects of Gaze and Proxemics

The Equilibrium Theory put forward by Argyle and Dean, posits that in human-human interactions, gaze and proxemic behaviors work together in establishing and maintaining a particular level of intimacy. This theory has been evaluated and used in Virtual Reality settings where people interact with Virtual Humans. In this study we disentangle the single and joint effects of proxemic and gaze behav...

Proxemics in Human-Computer Interaction

In 1966, anthropologist Edward Hall coined the term “proxemics.” Proxemics is an area of study that identifies the culturally dependent ways in which people use interpersonal distance to understand and mediate their interactions with others [1]. Recent research has demonstrated the use of proxemics in human-computer interaction (HCI) for supporting users’ explicit and implicit interactions in a...

Interaction Proxemics and Image Use in Neurosurgery

Within medical settings there is a growing interest in exploring touchless interaction technologies. The primary motivation here is to avoid contact during interaction so as to maintain asepsis. However, there is another important property of touchless interaction that has significant implications for their use within such settings – namely that interaction behaviour is spatially distal from th...

Interacting with the Ambience: Multimodal Interaction and Ambient Intelligence

Multimodality allows adaption of human-computer interaction on two different levels: on the one hand different users with different abilities can interact with information technology through a customized configuration of interaction devices supporting their individual needs. On the other hand output can be adapted to user context within different environments, e.g. in the car, in the living roo...
